"Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?!?!" (imagine this being yelled at you). Hey everyone! Man has it been a dead couple of weeks at the movies but that's to be expected around this time of year. I did finally get to see a flick though hence why I'm writing this. Today I will be reviewing the new British comedy Fighting With My Family. LET'S GET STARTED.

The Knights are a fighting family. Ricky Knight (Nick Frost) and Julia Knight (Lena Headey) have been wrestling pretty much their whole lives. It was their saving grace really, Ricky from a life of theft and crime and Julia from a life on the street. They love wrestling and it defines their life. They love it so much they raised their kids, Zak (Jack Lowden) and Saraya (Florence Pugh), named after Julia's wrestling alter ego, to be wrestlers as well. In their town of Norwich, they own a wrestling company where they teach kids how to fight, to hopefully help turn their lives around and keep them off the streets.
Zak and Saraya are both very talented and they catch the eye of the WWE. They are invited to audition to become part of the WWE. They both audition and do a great job. However only one of them is picked. That one is Saraya AKA Paige (her wrestling name). She will have to move to Florida to train, leaving behind her brother, her family, and everything she knows. Will she be able to successfully join the WWE and discover who she truly is without her family by her side?
REVIEW:
I wasn't sure if I would like this film or not at the start because I know absolutely nothing about wrestling nor have a huge interest in it. I thought I'd give it a chance though because I love British films, especially comedies and I really like some of the actors who were in it. I ended up really enjoying this film. It exceeded my expectations by a long shot.
Florence Pugh is very popular over in the UK but I personally hadn't seen her in anything. She was fantastic in
this movie. She really carried the story and it was very easy for me to connect and engage with her. I cared about what happened to her, her journey throughout. She was very funny but could also capture the loneliness of the character while she was away from her family, in a foreign country. She played it subtly but you were able to feel what she was going through and felt it with her. I really enjoyed her performance. The other performances in this film were very strong as well from Nick Frost (part of one of the greatest comedic duos out there, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg) and Lena Headey to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who is just always a delight. Everyone played their part and played it well. There wasn't a weak link.

This film was very funny but I was expecting that given who it stars and having had Stephen Merchant write and direct it. It had the classic British humor that I love and can never get enough of. It had those great one-liners, physical humor, awkward pauses, everything you could want. I was surprised with how much heart this film had. Sure it was about wrestling and the WWE, but it really focused on Paige's character and discovering who she is. It was really a journey about her accepting herself for who she is and utilizing that in her career and dreams. The film had a nice balance of humor and heart.

Overall I really enjoyed this film and it greatly exceeded my expectations. It's a small film that I think deserves some love. Even if you don't like or know anything about wrestling like me, there is plenty of things to love in this film. It's really about family and discovering who you are and we can all relate to that. I think you should check this one out. One because it's a smaller movie so give it all the support it can get and two branch out of your comfort zone in movies, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
PARENT'S GUIDE:
There is some cussing throughout the movie. There is also some violence because the film does revolve around wrestling so there is quite a bit of that. There are also some sexual innuendos. This film is rated PG-13.
OVERALL RATING:
For this movie I will give it a...
Fighting With My Family: 7/10
I really enjoyed this flick and like I said it surprised me with how good it was. It was funny but had a lot of heart.
CONCLUSION:
Well there ya have it! Sorry it's been so long since I've posted one of these bad boys. I'll try to bring my A-game coming up. A little preview for my blog coming up... I will be seeing Captain Marvel so keep your eyes peeled for that little review. I'm pretty stoked about it so hopefully it lives up to the hype. I'm sure it will though, it is Marvel and a female superhero, you can't really go wrong. Oh and Brie Larson is playing said superhero, definitely can't go wrong.
As always thanks for visiting and be sure to tell your friends! Please leave me a comment or suggestion. Until next time!
