Hello there! It's been a while since I've conversed with you so I thought I would break my silence. Today I will be reviewing the movie Tag starring Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Jake Johnson, and Ed Helms. I've got to say this movie was pretty hilarious. It was one of the funniest movies I've seen this year. Anyway before I get it into too much detail... LET'S BEGIN!

PLOT:

Tag tells the true story of a group of friends who have been playing the same game of tag for over 30 years. Yes you read that right... this is based on a true story. This game takes place during the whole month of May every single year and these guys will go to extreme lengths to tag someone. This particular year, Hogan (Ed Helms) recruits his friends Callahan (Jon Hamm), Chilli (Jake Johnson), and Sable (Hannibal Buress) to tag the untaggable (yes that's a word I just made up), their friend Jerry (Jeremy Renner). Jerry has never been tagged once in the whole 30 years they have been playing this game. This is going to be the year though! Well in their minds at least. The four friends pack it up and head out along with Hogan's wife, Anna (Isla Fisher) and a writer for the New York Times (Annabelle Wallis) who just happens to be doing a story on Callahan when Hogan barges in and tags him. She thinks this story is too good to be true so she tags (pun intended) along to see how this plays out. What follows is a crazy, hilarious story about friends and their bond over this game.

REVIEW:

This movie is pretty darn funny. I found myself laughing out loud a lot which is kind of rare for me with comedies nowadays because I feel like they all tend to follow the same formula. That's not to say there weren't some parts that I would have cut out of this movie that I didn't think were particularly funny but overall this movie was pretty hilarious. This was a comedy that had heart to it which was a pleasant surprise. Sure it's about a group of idiot friends who will do anything to tag one another including dressing up as an old lady, getting a job at one of their friend's businesses, and tag someone in the middle of their wife giving birth but it's also about how this silly game brings them together even if it's just for a month out of a year. It really shows how this game has kept them close despite most of them living in different states. They will stop whatever they are doing to play this game.

Everyone is really able to show off their great comedic timing from the guys to the gals. I personally thought Ed Helms was the funniest. Just the faces he made and his timing was fantastic and comedic timing is everything. Everyone was really funny in this movie, they all had great one-liners. Although she didn't have as much screen time as the guys, Isla Fisher often stole each scene she was in. She was hilarious as the too intense Anna who really got into the game. I mean everyone from Jon Hamm to Jake Johnson had me cracking up multiple times.

What I loved most about this movie was that it was based on a true story. Like real people actually do this. It just seems so far fetched and crazy to actually be real but that's what makes it so funny. I'm not giving anything away here but in the end credits they show real footage of the guys playing and what you see in the movie actually happened in real life. Watching it I thought surely they made some of this stuff up. No person would go to such lengths just to tag a person. Nope, I was wrong, it was all true.

Despite me laughing out loud the majority of the film there were some things I would have cut out that I either didn't think were funny or seemed redundant. For instance there were a lot of jokes focused on male genitalia which I mean come on... that's a cheap shot. Every comedy nowadays do these types of jokes. They aren't funny and it's often the same type of joke. I get it, I get it, some guys think these jokes are just the funniest thing in the world but reality check fellas... they aren't. There was one scene where the group went to a gym to see if they could hunt down Jerry to tag him and they meet one of his employees. I swear the only thing the guy ever said were these types of jokes and the same ones at that. He just wasn't funny and the scene really didn't even need to be included for us to grasp the story.

There were also a series of jokes about miscarriages which I personally thought went too far. They just weren't funny and they let the jokes drag on too long to where it got uncomfortable, not that it wasn't initially. There was also some unnecessary cussing which you tend to expect from a R rated comedy. Other than that I thought this movie was pretty funny.

PARENTS GUIDE:

As stated above there is quite a bit of language in this film. There are also a lot of inappropriate jokes about male private parts as stated before. There is a brief image of a dude's butt in a thong because he gets pantsed by one of the other guys in order to escape. This movie is rated R so I would probably avoid kiddos seeing this one. You can make this a date night movie if you'd like.

CONCLUSION:

So as I said multiple times I thought this movie was pretty funny. It was funnier than most other comedies I have seen recently. It was just a goofy, funny movie about a group of grown men who like to play tag. What could be weird about that? I would recommend this movie if you want a movie that will make you laugh out loud but keep in mind the stuff I told you about. If any of that bothers you, you may want to skip this one.

I hope you enjoyed this review and my ranting as always. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think. Please share with your friends so you can have something really cool to talk about at lunch or something. Ummm I think that's all I have to say so... SEE YA!
