Hello there friends! Long time no talk... although you can't really talk because I'm writing the blog. Anyway, welcome back!! Today I will be reviewing another one of my most highly anticipated movies of the summer, Crazy Rich Asians. You know what? I do this with some of my blogs where I just go ahead and spoil how I feel about a movie I'm reviewing and I think I'm going to do that now. Haha! Just kidding! Don't worry though you will soon know how I feel so let's stop dragging this thing out and begin!

This movie begins with us meeting Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an economics professor who lives in New York. She has been dating her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding) for a little over a year. Nick must attend his best friend's wedding back home in Singapore and wants to take Rachel with him to meet his family. She agrees thinking it could be a fun adventure. Little does she know, however, that Nick is part of one of the wealthiest families in Singapore and his family has a huge reputation back home. His family led by his mother, Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh) aren't the most welcoming to outsiders.
Rachel meets the rather large family and tries to win them over. Some are easier than others including Nick's cousin, Astrid (Gemma Chan), a fashion icon who instantly becomes one of Rachel's allies. Along the way on this crazy adventure she makes some great friends and learns more about Nick and his life. Most importantly she discovers and learns more about herself.
REVIEW:
So I'm just going to come out and say it but I absolutely adored this movie! If any of you follow me on Twitter you know how much I adore Bridget Jones's Diary and consider it to be the greatest romantic comedy ever but I have to say this movie ranks up there with it. This movie is so fun and it was so enjoyable from start to finish. It was 2 hours long which is a pretty long movie but it didn't feel like that at all. In fact, I would've been fine if it had been longer. It was so creative and colorful and the performances were all great.

Let's start with Constance Wu as Rachel. This girl is a movie star and should definitely be in more films. She's so charming and witty, she just captures the screen. You feel like you could be her best friend and you are constantly pulling for her. She did a great job of capturing Rachel's vulnerability of being in an unknown place with an overwhelming and intimidating family, but she was also able to capture the humor of the story.
Henry Golding who played Nick was equally as great. This is his first ever film performance. He has never done this before and you wouldn't even notice. He's fantastic and captures the screen whenever he's on. Him and Constance had such great chemistry together and they played off each other nicely. After this film I'm sure he'll be getting more roles because he really is a great actor.
Okay I have to gush about my girl, Awkwafina. I just love this lady so much. She is hilarious and constantly makes me laugh and her performance in this movie is no exception. She plays Rachel's best friend Peik Lin. She steals every single scene she is in. I need her to be in more movies because she is a rock star and I love her. She stole my heart in Ocean's 8 and she did it again in this one. This girl knows comedy and her timing is impeccable. Let's get her in more movies please!
I could just gush and gush over every single person in this movie but I'm only going to talk about two more performances that I really loved. Those are Michelle Yeoh's performance as Eleanor and Gemma Chan's performance as Astrid. Let's start with Michelle Yeoh. This lady is a legend which you probably already knew that if you've seen any of her films. Let me tell you, you do not want to mess with this lady in this movie. She is one tough cookie but you also have a sense of respect for her. That's not to say you don't wish she would be nicer to Rachel. Michelle and Constance have some great scenes together where you really get to see inside each of their characters and learn more about them. The scenes between the two of them were probably some of my favorite scenes. Let's move on to Gemma Chan who plays Astrid. I love this character. I thought her story was really interesting and Gemma did such a great job with it. I feel like a broken record saying she really captured the screen but she did. Everyone in this movie did. All the performances were just that great.
Now I've never read the book so I don't know how closely it follows but you can bet after watching this movie I will be reading it. It was just a fun story about family, love, and discovering who you are. You can't really go wrong with those elements in my opinion. This is the first movie in 25 years to have an all Asian leading cast. 25 years! That's insane! I think this could be a history making movie and I hope it spurs more movies like it in the future. There is so much talent in this world and it often gets overlooked based on how someone looks or their skin color. This doesn't need to be the case, movies with people of color at the helm make money and can be successful, look at Black Panther. This movie really is for everyone and it's so enjoyable and fun.
I really hope you check out this movie and support it so we can get more like it made. I'm telling you I loved every second of this movie and I think you will too. If you like a good rom-com or just a good movie in general, check this out. You won't regret it.
PARENTS GUIDE:
There is some cussing in this movie but not too much. There is also some sexual innuendos but nothing bad at all. Overall it's just a fun, summer movie. It's rated PG-13 so it's up to you if you would like your kiddos to see it.
CONCLUSION:
So I think you can tell from my spiel that I quite enjoyed this movie and I think you should go see it. I'll spare you from more of my gushing. But seriously go check this movie out. As a lover of romantic comedies I can tell you this one will not disappoint. Also there are two more books in the series so please go see this one and make it successful so we can get those made!
As always thank you so much for taking the time to read this blog of mine. Please make sure to leave me a comment or suggestion and tell your friends! Until next time!
